Just about
Having seen the gross teen porno Reanimator but being a Lovecraft fan as a reader I thought I would try this one,too-Hmmm...Still gross with the addition of an unlikely semi-hero, given Lovecrafts ethnic philosophy as the swarthy victim eaten alive by ethereal bugs, this is still fun for those with a taste for such fun although it was spun from a short tale or smidgen as the director admits...I doubt Lovecraft wrote any trendy S+M into his tale either but he is dead and directors are alive and have audiences to please who would rather party than read,I would guess,so it's a bit eighties Drive-In,but fine if that's your mood-As to the style of the film, garish, gaudy, weirdy, and features some wacky machinery and somewhat creaky eighties animatronic effects, what else? But CGI is still not everything and Stop-Frame,too,has its own weird charm, just as nostalgia and Lovecraft do...The two main players are outstanding and almost make this rather ludicrous screenplay plausible-Let's say your unbelief is suspendable and the berserk ending is,well,A berserk eighties extravaganza of bloody, explosive mayhem with a somewhat surprising gloomy ending and as for extras, they are very, very good and a very worthy addition to the overall package...Lovecrafty rather than Lovecraft but then he was after all,a New England writer,so if anyone should twist him,It would be Amerikas Jan Kees...Fun on several counts and levels and a relative bargain.
