Wonderfully Camp 80s fare.

Night of the Comet is a guilty pleasure of mine. If you have seen any of the Living Dead movies or any of the 1950s alien movies then you have seen the premise of this movie before. That is not meant as a criticism. The acting is pretty bad to the point of being funny and some of the lines are unbelievable!. However as a guilty pleasure, you can't do much better than night of the comet. This science fiction/horror film was set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where the only survivors are two teenage girls who are more concerned about shopping and boys then the end of the world or the zombies roaming the streets of L.A. The film was fun and also had some nice comedic moments as well, it's also typically 80's with the fashion and bad hair and cheesy 80's music, those who grew up during the 80's might remember that annoying Cindy Lauper song which gets played in this film. Anyway, the film was about these two sisters who wake up one morning to blood red skies and the realization that the human race has been wiped out. It becomes apparent that anyone who was not surrounded by steel when the Earth recently passed through the tail of Haley's comet has been reduced to a pile of red ash. They encounter a truck driver and take over the air waves at a local radio station in an attempt to get help but attract the attention of a group of scientists who knew of the comet and waiting to find survivors. They hid underground in a steel laboratory, but left the vents open. Now, as various survivors of the comet who were only partially surrounded by steel are decaying into flesh-hungry zombies, the scientists are attempting to create a vaccine made of the blood of people who were not infected by the comet while saving themselves at the same time. This film never takes itself seriously and was a fun low budget sci/fi film, there was no gore or blood but it still managed to be entertaining with an amusing plot, I highly recommend this.

A hidden gem of a cult sf / horror movie

At long last this cult masterpiece from the 1980s makes it to dvd. I have no idea why this film isn't better known as it has everything the fan of horror and sf could want. The plot is familiar in which a few likeable characters wake up one day to find that they are the last people left on earth. A comet passed by in the night - the one that wiped out the dinosaurs - and has killed everyone except the lucky few who happened to be hidden away behind steel walls. Those who didn't get killed have been turned into zombies. The plucky survivors band together, but then danger arrives from an unexpected direction...

This film stands out from the many others, some big budget, that have tried this end-of-the-world formula. It does so with a great collection of entertaining leads featuring Catherine Stewart and Kelli Maroney along with a pre-Trek Robert Beltran and a memorable cameo from Geoffrey Lewis. The story delivers a great deal of tension from not only the zombies but the horror of the situation while not taking itself too seriously. It also has some surprising twists and has a satisfying ending that pushes past the usual formula of wondering who'll survive and who'll get killed horribly. In short this film comes over as effortless in the way it's been made and is a joyful piece of entertainment that is a text-book example of the sleeper movie.

long deliery

dvd came exactly as ordered and no damage,no problem with item or company ordered from but be prepared for a long wait, mine took over 5 weeks to arrive

Excellent B Movie 'Horror'

Catherine Mary Stewart & Kelli Maroney are well cast to play air-head shoppers in this B-Movie 'Horror'. I say 'horror' as this film is not quite a horror as it was intended (or I assume it was), but more of a science fiction movie with some horro and comedy thrown in. There are a few jumpy scenes and a few tiny little scares in there, but this is not a full blown horror movie. Considering it's age the zombie make up is pretty good as well, which is an added bonus for such an old B-Movie. An excellent science fiction movie - shame it's never had a UK region 2 release.

Night of the.... Bomb It!!!!

I think the central problem in this film is simply the fact that the creators have chosen two rather bland leads. The actresses who play the surviving sisters wander the city searching for shopping and boys.
It all starts so well, with the arrival of a comet last seen in the jurassic period wipes the earth clean of humanity, save for the sisters, a handsome lad, and one or two fairly effective comet zombies.
By the time a small knit band of scientists arrive to save the film (they can act) we've been wishing for the comet to turn around so the girls end up as piles of red dust.
It tries to be The Omega Man, and, with a more concentrated cast, may well have been since the idea is quite solid.
It's a shame. Worth watching for the general idea itself. But ready yourself for the most cutesy ending of the 80s!!!
  1. Beggars can't be choosers.
  2. Two heads are better than one.
  3. As you sow, so shall you reap.
  4. April showers bring May flowers.
  5. A miss is as good as a mile.
